The basics of clamshells

  • Clamshell packaging secures product(s) between two hinged sheets of thermoformed plastic.
  • The plastic clamshell encloses the product on both sides and the plastic flanges (edges) can be heat sealed together.
  • Clamshells may be custom molded to follow the contours of an item, or serve as a clear plastic container for holding a number of small loose pieces together.
  • Tri-Fold clamshells or footed clamshells offer maximum versatility in merchandising. These packages can hang from a hook, stand alone on a shelf, or sit upright within a display or club store pallet.
  • A printed insert card sells the product with compelling graphics and product information while the clear plastic provides excellent visibility. When sealed on all edges clamshell packages are especially tamper and theft resistant.
  • Clamshells are recloseable and reusable if left unsealed.
  • Clamshell packaging is especially effective packaging option for heavy products, or items like electronics that are a target for theft.

Food storage container

Food storage containers are widespread in use throughout the world and have probably been in use since the first human civilizations.

In early civilizations cereal grains such as maize, wheat, barley etc. were stored in large airy buildings, often raised up from the ground to reduce infestation by pests and vermin. Ancient Egyptian and early Hebrew writings include reference to such buildings and their successors can still be seen in use in less developed countries and regions.

Smaller quantities of food were stored in baskets made from woven grasses or leaves and such designs have remained in use to the present day.

In more recent times but prior to the invention of the refrigerator many food products were stored in the home as preserves or pickles, often in heat sealed jars such as Kilner jars

In the modern developed world, a very wide range of food packaging and containers is now available made from many materials.

Plastic containers
Many products use low-density polyethylene formed into plastic bags or plastic boxes. There are many makers of plastic boxes some such as Tupperware and Lock & Lock are known throughout much of the developed world.

Metal containers
Longer term storage or storage of items needing a higher degree of protection from the elements may use sheet metal. A common form of such storage is the biscuit tin. See Canning.

Refrigerator
Perhaps the most ubiquitous domestic item of food storage is the fridge or fridge-freezer in which a wide variety of foodstuffs are contained and preserved through the use of low temperatures.

Disposable
Disposable foam food containers may be used for food or beverages.

Generally we use five kinds food storage containers in modern era:

Plastic food storage container.
Glass food storage container.
Stainless steel food container.
Ceramic food storage container.
Acrylic food storage container.

Fruit Punnet

A punnet pronounced is a small box for the gathering and sale of fruit and vegetables, typically small berries. The word is largely confined to Commonwealth countries and is of uncertain origin, but is thought to be a diminutive of “pun”, a British dialect word for pound, from the days in which such containers were used as a unit of measurement. The British Dictionary of National Biography, parenthetically in its entry for geneticist R.C. Punnett (1875–1967), credits “a strawberry growing ancestor devised the wooden basket known as a ‘punnet’ “.

Description
Punnets were originally a round woodchip basket but typically are now rectangular and made of plastic; increasingly moulded pulp and corrugated fiberboard are being used as they are perceived to be more sustainable materials. Decorative punnets are often made of felt and seen in flower and craft arrangements.

How to Make Egg Trays From Waste Paper

What Is An Egg Tray Machine?
This is the first question we should make clear. We can see various egg trays in the supermarket when we buy eggs. Except for different designs and sizes, there are trays made of different materials, such as plastic egg trays, paper egg trays, and even wood egg trays. Among them, paper egg tray is getting popular because of its advantageous features. For instance, it is light in weight. On the other hand, it is a kind of absolutely environment-friendly packaging product.

Egg Tray Manufacturing Process—How to Make Egg Trays From Waste Paper
Obviously, paper egg trays are made of paper pulp. To put it simply, an egg tray production line contains breaking scrap paper into pulp, forming pulp into paper trays, drying wet trays, and packing the end products. However, it is more complex about how to make egg trays from waste paper.

First Step— Making Pulp
The first step is to break waste paper, such as old newspaper, old cartons into paper pulp.

Second Step—Forming Trays
This is the key section of an overall pulp molding production line. The prepared pulp will be transferred through pumps into pulp molding equipment. With the use of vacuum pump and air compressor, paper pulp is molded in forming molds. Different pulp products can be formed by means of different molding dies. Then the transfer molds will demold the wet trays. In general, a good paper egg tray making machine can complete this section by itself smoothly. Thus, it is crucial to choose a paper pulp tray making machine.

Third Step—Drying Trays
By the way, the automation degree of an egg tray production line often refers to its drying system. Semi-automatic egg tray machines always employ natural drying or brick drying line with carts; while the full-automatic ones often use a conveyor belt. Which one is the best? It depends on many factors, such as your investment costs, the output of your paper tray making machine, etc. It sounds complex.

Fourth Step—Packing Trays Up
After drying, you can stack the end products up for sale. We have different equipment according to different requirements. The commonly used machines include hot press, packing machine, counter, etc. Among them, a hot press can make the appearance of end products smoother and more beautiful. While customers often adopt a packer to stack egg trays compactly so that it is easy to transport and store. Moreover, a counter is used to count the trays to improve the working efficiency. All in all, we can supply whatever you need. Better yet, the whole process is free from contamination.

Types of Blister Packaging

Face Seal – The most common type of blister packaging, this style includes a flanged thermoformed blister and a paperboard backing. The product is secured in the package by heat-sealing the flange of the plastic blister to the blister card.
Full Face Seal – This style seals the thermoformed plastic part to a paperboard blister card like a regular face seal, but instead of a small flange around the formed blister, a full face seal covers the entire front of the package. This provides the package with added durability and reduces the risks of bent corners on the blister card.
Mock clamshells packaging have the look of a full face seal blister, but also include a small flange around the perimeter of the package.
Trapped Blister – Popular in the club store market, this blister style differs from a traditional face seal blister in that the thermoformed blister is sealed between two blister cards, opposed to being sealed directly to a coated card. This method of sealing adds more pilferage resistance, and the lack of a visible flange allows for more billboard space.

Introduction to different kinds of electronic blister trays

Hangzhou Xunda Clamshell Packaging Co., Ltd. —- Established in 2003, as a leading manufacturer of clear plastic packaging. We specialize in producing high quality clamshell and blister packaging products. Our products can be widely used in the packaging of foodstuff, cosmetic, hardware, handicrafts, medical care and electronics products . Our products series including clamshell packagingfood trays, blister etc. All of our products use high quality PET, PVC, PS,BOPS,K-HIPS,PP and ABS material. All of the raw material had passed SGS material test.

Under normal circumstances, it is difficult to accurately measure the elastic limit of PVC sheets. However, there is a positive correlation between the elastic limit and the tensile strength, which can determine the elastic limit based on the same percentage of tensile strength of different materials.

As an important loading, unloading, storage and transportation equipment in the logistics operation process, pallets play a huge role in modern logistics with the use of forklifts. The benefits brought by the pallets to the modern logistics industry are mainly reflected in the fact that the unit packaging, standardization and standardization of the articles can be realized, the articles can be protected, and the logistics and business flow can be facilitated. In use, the commonly used materials for electronic blister trays are PVC and PS hard film. Generally, transparent blister trays are commonly used in packaging, and other colors can be selected according to individual needs.

There are many types of plastic trays, and electronic plastic trays are one of them, so it can be used in many industries. Pallet products are one of the types of plastics in the plastics industry. The morphological structure and weight are suitable for the tray packaging which is suitable for the strength. The thickness of the materials used is also different, depending on the packaging needs of the packaged goods. Such blister trays are often used in the electronics industry, the toy industry, the stationery industry, and the technology products. Industry, cosmetics industry, health care products industry, etc.

What are the Advantages of Blister Card Packaging?

Blister packaging represents one of the most widely used packaging methods. It is utilized for packing countless retail items, including tools, cosmetics and household products. The flexible option furnishes a number of advantages, so it is a go-to solution for a variety of unique products.

“Foil” blister packaging options include over the counter pill packs that utilize pre-formed blisters backed by foil material. A date and lot code is printed on the foil side to establish traceability. To access the pills or tablets they contain, consumers simply press on the plastic blister portion of the package to push the pill through the thin foil backing. These standard blister configurations are widely applied to cold remedies, dietary supplements and other pharmaceutical and nutraceutical goods. Once formed and filled, the sheets of individual tablets are often enclosed in secondary boxes for pharmacy or retail merchandising.

Carded Blister Packaging Another form of blister packaging is referred to as a “Carded” blister. There are a few design options with this type of retail blistering process. A “face-seal” seal blister is where the plastic is created with an outer flange which is sealed using dedicated sealing “nests” that press heat in the flange area to activate the glue on the blister card which secures the blister and the product to the card.

The blister card, which is made of SBS and is a rigid substrate (has an industry standard thickness of .020”) can be used to merchandise products vertically by incorporating a die-cut hang hole (often referred to as a “Sombrero” because of its shape) into the top of each card. Custom thermoformed shapes and sizes accommodate a variety of retail products which make the retail product 100% visible to the consumer while giving the end product a high gloss presentation. Goods presented this way allow for a large “billboard” area for graphics and instructions on the front and back of the card all while protecting the product in shipping and in the stores as a theft-resistant packaging option.

Another option of carded blistering is the “Trap” blister. This is where one fold-over blister card or a two-carded solution will “trap” the flanges of the custom blister in-between the cards to give the overall package a cleaner, more finished look. Many of the large format blisters you see in the club stores will incorporate this “trap” feature.

The Main Function of food packaging

Food has always been preferred, and food packaging is more important.

1. Protect food and extend the shelf life of food

(1) Protecting the appearance quality of foods to produce certain economic benefits

Foods are transported, handled, transported and stored throughout the circulation process, which may cause damage to the appearance quality of food. After the food is packaged inside and outside, the food can be well protected from damage.

(2) Protecting the original quality of food and extending the shelf life of food

The quality of food changes and deteriorates throughout the circulation.

The food itself has certain nutrients and moisture. This is the basic condition for the production and reproduction of bacteria, mildew, yeast, etc. When the temperature of food preservation is suitable for their reproduction, the food will be spoiled and deteriorated. If the food is aseptically packaged or packaged for high temperature sterilization, refrigeration, etc., it will prevent food spoilage and prolong the shelf life of the food.

At the same time, the food itself has a certain amount of water, and when the content of the water changes, it will cause changes or deterioration of the flavor of the food. If the corresponding moisture-proof packaging technology is adopted, the above phenomenon can be prevented, and the shelf life of the food is effectively extended.

In addition, when the food is in circulation, when it is directly exposed to sunlight and light, and at high temperatures, it is easy to cause oxidation, discoloration, odor, etc. of the food, such as the corresponding vacuum packaging, inflatable packaging and other technologies and corresponding packaging. Material. It can also effectively extend the shelf life of packaged foods.

2 packaged food is convenient for circulation

Some packages are containers for food circulation. Such as bottled wine, beverages, canned food, field-packed milk powder, etc., these packaging bottles, cans and bags are not only packaging containers, but also the transfer and sale of food. It brings great convenience to food circulation

3. Increase the variety of convenient foods, convenient for consumers to have convenient foods, have local flavor, it can only be circulated after being packaged, so that local famous foods can communicate and increase people’s daily food types.

Moreover, fresh foods, such as quick-frozen dumplings, packaged meals and preservation techniques, can be easily eaten by people.

4. Prevent food contamination, convenient cooking food, using special packaging technology

When the food is in circulation, it must be in contact with the container and the human hand, which is easy to cause the food to be contaminated. The packaged food can avoid this phenomenon and is beneficial to the health of the consumer.

5. Promote the rationality and planning of food circulation

Some fresh foods are prone to spoilage and are difficult to transport at a distance. For example, fruits and aquatic products, such as canned food, can reduce waste, reduce transportation costs, and promote the rationality and planning of food circulation. .

6. Promote food competition and increase food sales

Why use clear plastic clamshell packaging?

Why use clear plastic clamshell packaging? As one packaging engineer succinctly posted on a blog, “It’s durable, it’s cheap, it protects the product well, and it prevents theft from the packaging.”

Let’s clarify these benefits:

Clear clamshells provide the perfect showcase presentation for your product, giving you the option of making it visible from all angles. Consumers prefer to see the “real” item they are buying over just viewing a picture.
Clamshells can be molded into almost any shape so it can easily be made to conform to your product, minimizing space requirements. This low wasted space helps with packing density when shipping the product, which translates into lower cost. The retailer gets high display density as well.
Multi-purpose and self-contained: Other plastic packaging types may require 2 or more materials which adds to cost (adhesives, clear plastic covers, additional padding, partitions, etc.). With one-piece clamshells, you get ideal product visibility, product protection, and in-store security.
They’re durable. Their solid, plastic construction gives them an advantage over folding cartons which can get damaged. Consumers often reject a dented box even if the interior is not affected.
Versatility: clams can be designed to hang on a hook or stand on a shelf, or BOTH!
Comparatively low unit cost considering all factors: materials, simplicity of assembly, product protection, in-store security.
Avoid package rage: Every product packaging project has its own set of tradeoffs. You can make it easy or difficult to open a clamshell depending on your sealing strategy. Is customer convenience more important than in-store security? Does the value and size of the product mandate a tamper-proof package that deters shoplifting? The latter is the objective of the notoriously frustrating ‘rope seal’ around clamshells coming out of China. Closures can be as simple as a button snap or involve heat sealing, sonic welding, or glue systems for added security.

Facts You Need to Know About Blister Packaging

Blister packaging is a great way to package a variety of products, including medications, small tools, office supplies, and so much more! But before you decide that blister cards and packaging are right for your product, here are 5 things you should know.

Affordable. Blister packaging made out of thermoforming plastics is very affordable. Because thermoform plastics are lightweight, you will be able to cut down on shipping and transportation costs as well.
Trap Blisters are Most Common. There are numerous styles of blister packaging available. One of the most popular types is the trap blister. With this method, there is a piece of thermoplastic that is slightly larger than your product. With your product placed into the blister cavity, the product is then “trapped” between two pieces of sturdy paperboard.
Face Seals Can be Economical. With a face seal, a molded piece of plastic is secured over the top of your product and then sealed to a card. In this particular design, the plastic will only surround the product without covering the entire surface of the card. This style of packaging is commonly found on toothbrushes, glue sticks, lighters and other similar items. This style of packaging is affordable for both manufacturers and consumers.
Clamshells package are an Option. When a blister package folds over on itself, hinged at one end it is known as a clamshell. Clamshells are the perfect option for many products, as they are extremely secure, protecting products from tampering and unwanted moisture. Clamshells can be produced in just about any size or shape to accommodate all products.
Blister Packaging is a Sustainable Choice. Because blister packaging incorporates both thermoplastic and paperboard or pulp, it cuts down on the amount of plastic required for packaging. Because there is less plastic used, blister packaging is more environmentally sustainable.
Blister cards and packing are versatile, making them a popular choice for many products. If you are looking for quality blister packaging to protect your products, contact SouthPack today.
